Julia Gomez

Daughter of Tomas and Lugardita Gomez, Julia Gomez is a native of Santa Fe. She was a Home Economics teacher for thirty-six years and retired in May of 2002. She has one daughter who attends Northwestern University in Evanston, IL.

Julia has been doing colcha embrodiery for twenty years and her mentor was Monica Sosaya-Halford. She learned to weave from master weaver Beatrice Sandoval Maestas from Las Vegas, New Mexico.

Julia is a member of La Sociadad Folklorica and a member Club Real (Past Fiesta Princesses). She volunteers at Las Golondrinas and is on the Golden Apple Committee which searches for outstanding teachers in New Mexico. Julia's other hobbies include oil painting, tennis and sewing.
